Our Community Engagement Lead Nattalie Joinbee recently visited the Kyabram Racetrack and Recreation Reserve (KRRR) to hear firsthand about an ambitious plan to secure the site’s long-term environmental sustainability.
The complex covers nearly 40 hectares and is home to multiple community groups including Parkland Golf Club, Kyabram Trotting Club, Kyabram Urban Landcare Group and the Small Bore Rifle Club. At the heart of the challenge is water, essentially how to use it more efficiently, manage flood risk and preserve the surrounding vegetation.

KRRR is proposing the construction of an underground irrigation pipeline that would immediately benefit all user groups. This is with the intention to future-proof the site, reduce environmental impact and enable better maintenance and landcare outcomes across the precinct.
Nattalie was invited to tour the site on a very hot afternoon, guided by KRRR Chairman Paul Price and Secretary/Treasurer Don Cook (pictured above).
“It became clear this is more than just an infrastructure upgrade, it’s about collaboration and creating environmental outcomes for generations to come,” she said.
The visit was a chance to understand the project’s scale and whether there may a proposal from the organisation in the future. (NB: this is not a project we've funded to date).
